There are not so many cryogenic linear motors, because linear motors need a high power for driving themselves compared to rotary motors. Then, we try to apply superconducting coil to a linear motor. Static and dynamic characteristics about the linear motor are discussed. The total linear motor system composed of the linear motor, a PID controller, a displacement sensor and a power amplifier. This paper discusses static and dynamic characteristics for the linear motor at room temperature and in liquid nitrogen. Step responses and follow-up control are performed in liquid nitrogen.
