Abstract
The nature of the transition to turbulence via spatio-temporal intermittency in two-dimensional coupled map lattices is shown to depend strongly on the details of the local map. Within a class of models, we give evidence of both continuous and discontinuous transitions well described by the concepts of phase transitions in statistical mechanics.
