Development of compact devices that can diagnose cardiac diseases and heart monitoring is a major challenge researcher's face today. The device needs to be efficient with a reduced architecture. One such attempt is made here to develop an efficient, low cost programmable device that can monitor such diseases. Realization of the proposed device is accomplished using FPGA architecture. Efficiency of the device has been resulted due to reduction of number of sub-functional units in the entire architecture/circuits. Application of DSP techniques proved to be handy in our case by providing the desired information. The device can help far-flung are patients in monitoring and diagnosis of diseases. However, the embedded system developed here can partially fulfil the said requirement. Considerable emphasize is given to basic parameter that can cause major damage to patients. Effective use of sensors through the Arduino mega 2560 hardware component has been made to extract the desired parameters. To reduce the computational complexity, required computation algorithm has been proposed by observing minimum area solution for every operation. Optimization of the area with respect to the number of slices has been manifested in the result. The spartan 3A/3AN device family has been used to verify and validate the proposed methodology.
