Abstract
Issues related to the neuroendocrine mechanisms responsible for the development and ageing of the ovary, as a reproductive organ participating in sustaining homeostasis on the level of the whole body, are discussed in the review. Also given are the latest data on the role of immune cells of ovaries in the mechanisms of their ageing-related involution, which opens new prospects for studying ovarian ageing in the aspect of interlink between the ovary and the immune system.
