Abstract
The specific activity of terrestrial potassium, thorium, and radium as well as radiocesium isotopes in Sarajevo city was determined. From the measured γ-ray spectra, the activity concentrations were determined for 40K, 232Th, 226Ra, and 137Cs with the respective average values of 460, 39, 32, and 52 Bq kg–1. The corresponding annual effective dose indoor and outdoor values were within the maximum limit of 1 mSv year–1 given by UNSCEAR. The calculated adsorbed dose rate in air was 0.058 μGy h–1. In general, all hazard index parameters were within the criterion upper limits, implying insignificant radiation risk hazard.
