Synthesis and X-ray structure analysis of a new binuclear Schiff base Co(II) complex with the ligand N,N′-bis(3-methoxysalicylidene)-1,4-butanediamine

Abstract

The title binuclear complex, tris[N,N-bis(3-methoxysalicylidene)-1,4-diaminobutane] dicobalt(II), C60H70Co2N6O15, was prepared by the reaction of the tetradentate Schiff base ligand bis(3-methoxysalicylidene)-1,4-diaminobutane and Co(CH3COO)2 · 4H2O in a ethanol solution and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. This complex has a dinuclear structure where two Co(II) ions are bridged by one N ∘,N′-bis(3-methoxysalicylidene)-1,4-diaminobutane. The two Co(II) ions, have two distorted octahedral coordination involving two O and two N atoms.
