Abstract
Characteristics of a polarization-nonuniform beam in the focal region of a lens are studied. The incident unpolarized wave confined by the lens aperture is represented as a superposition of Hermite-Gaussian modes with different intensities, polarization states, and degrees of coherence. It is shown that, with allowance for the amplitude aberrations of the lens, the light, in certain points of the focal region, appears to be completely polarized.
