Abstract
In part I of the present study the distribution of the species along the Austrian stretch of the Danube is presented. The free-flowing main channel in connection with the floodplains provide the most diverse habitats, whereas the impounded stretches of the river were less diverse. The appendix presents these differences in species composition for each stretch of the river in detail.
