Abstract
Fish skeletons and fragments have been collected from a new Pliocene fossiliferous locality in the surroundings of Polis (north-western Cyprus). They belong to at least eight different genera of teleostean fishes, among which Bregmaceros cf. albyi (Sauvage) is by far the most abundant. A comparison with the Pliocene fish fauna of Amnissos in the Heraklion Basin of Crete shows a great similarity in their composition, which probably characterized the whole Eastern Mediterranean during this period in infra- to circalittoral waters.
