Report of the brown alga Zosterocarpus oedogonium (Ectocarpales) from Portugal, its first recorded occurrence outside of the Mediterranean Sea

Abstract
The brown algal species Zosterocarpus oedogonium (Ectocarpales, Phaeophyceae), previously known only from locations in the Mediterranean Sea, was found growing attached in 20 m depth off Farilhão Island, Berlengas Archipelago, Portugal. This record represents the first report of this species from the Atlantic Ocean.
