Abstract

This paper describes the mycorrhizal synthesis between the endangered Abies guatemalensis and the Guatemalan strain Chi 0.97 of Laccaria bicolor. This is the first report of a mycorrhiza obtained on this plant species by inoculation. The synthesis was carried out under controlled conditions using plastic containers with sterile peat moss-vermiculite substrate and mycelial inoculum. A description of the morphology and anatomy of the mycorrhizae is given. They were simple or monopodial-pinnate, pale orange with violet emanating hyphae, plectenchymatous mantle and "Palmetti"-like hyphae. Primordia with stipe and pileus were observed at the bottom of containers near the root system.
