Abstract

In order to produce a neutron-rich Λ hypernucleus for the first time, we carried out an experiment by utilizing the (π,K+) double charge-exchange reaction on a B10 target. We observed the production of a LiΛ10 hypernucleus. The cross section for the Λ bound region was found to be 11.3±1.9nb/sr with the 1.2GeV/c incident momentum, which is compared with the BΛ10 hypernucleus production cross section, 7.8±0.3μb/sr, in the (π+,K+) reaction with a 1.05GeV/c incident momentum beam.
