Abstract

By adding Skyrme terms to the Weinberg Lagrangian we propose a chiral model coupled with ρ mesons which admits an absolutely conserved topological charge (baryon number). This model possesses another topological charge which is not conserved because of instanton effects. We evaluate the mass and the lifetime of the quasistable soliton carrying the latter charge. It is suggested that a possible candidate for this quasistable soliton is the ι(1.4) meson.
