We examine effects of the energy dependence of the elementary nucleon-nucleon cross section on extracting the so-called in-medium cross section by studying the beam energy dependence of the flow parameter. The reliability of a recently inferred in-medium cross section using a Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck transport model with a constant cross section is discussed.
