Abstract

The Mg25(α,t)26Al reaction has been studied at Eα=50 MeV in the region of excitation energy from 5 to 10 MeV with an energy resolution of 20 keV. The fragmentation of the strengths for the stretched 6 states is found to be consistent with the calculation for an oblately deformed nucleus, in contrast to the prolate shape of the ground-state band.
