Abstract

The electronic properties of a ferromagnetic Fe monolayer epitaxially adsorbed on a Ag{100} substrate have been computed fully self-consistently. The minority d-band spin states of the Fe overlayer were found to be separated energetically from the majority-spin band. The magnetic moment per overlayer atom is 3.0μB, 36% larger than that of bulk iron.
