INTRODUCTION

This protocol is used to stain embryo skeleton with alcian blue and alizarin red at later stages of development, when there is significant replacement of the cartilaginous early skeleton with ossified bone. It has been used with good results on the short-tailed fruit bat Carollia perspicillata and other bat species from CS 20 through neonatal stages.
