Abstract

On the basis of the nucleotide divergence in the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) domain of the rRNA gene and the D1/D2 domain of the 26S rRNA gene, species of the genus can be divided into different phylogenetic groups. In this study, three distinct phylogenetic clusters as well as a novel species, sp. nov. with type strain CBS 2455 (=JCM 16346), are introduced. Mating studies indicate that strains belonging to are heterothallic.
