Abstract

Operation of a system built of two layers of identical Peltier elements is investigated. It is shown that adding the second layer increases the temperature difference between the cooled object and the heat sink much less than the factor 2 that could be naively anticipated. Low cooling efficiency of the layer not attached to the heat sink is demonstrated and explained. Practical recommendations are given for designing and operation of the multi-layer cooling systems.
