Abstract

The author considers a self-interacting scalar field theory in a slowly varying gravitational background field. Assuming that the temperature is high compared with some effective mass appearing naturally in the calculation he obtains the derivative expansion in the background field, the quantity of central interest in the quasilocal approximation scheme.
