Abstract
For thermal neutrons, the coherent scattering cross section is close to zero for a gamma-phase manganese-copper alloy containing 68 atomic% manganese. The alloy is easily manufactured, worked and soldered, and could have a practical application as a material for the construction of neutron windows and specimen containers in neutron diffraction apparatus. Some properties of the alloy are compared with those of other window materials.
