Abstract

A non-relativistic augmented plane wave calculation of the 5d-6s bands in gold has been carried out. A neck radius of 0·18 ks for the Fermi surface agrees well with experiment but the TX belly radius of 1·036 ks is too small and the TK one of 0·959ks too large. Optical data indicate that the calculated s-d band overlap is too small.
