Abstract
Measured LEED intensities for 12 beams diffracted from the basal plane of the hexagonal close packed phase of zirconium have been compared with data from multiple scattering calculations utilising a reliability index of Zanazzi and Jona (1977). The evidence suggests an unreconstructed structure for this surface, with the topmost spacing contracted by 1+or-2% from the bulk value.
