A Spectroscopic Search for Cool White Dwarfs
Abstract
Ninety faint, high-proper-motion stars of color class 0 and +1 from the Lowell Proper Motion Survey have been observed spectroscopically. We report here the discovery of 53 new white dwarfs, at least 20 of which are redder than B - V = 0.4. The sample should thus double the number of known cool white dwarfs and suggests that the deficiency of such stars is less severe than previously thought.
