The Color-Magnitude Diagram of the Pleiades Cluster.
Abstract
A new distance modulus of 5.52 mag. is found for the P1eiades by fitting the main-sequence stars with B-V = 055 to B-V = 0.85 to the Hyades main sequence. The age of the Pleiades is found, from a study of the evolution of the brighter cluster stars, to be about 150 x 106 years. The cluster main sequence has a gap at about B - V = 0.90. On the assumption that this gap separates stable main-sequence stars from those still in the process of gravitational contraction, we obtain another estimate of the age of the cluster that agrees with the age derived from the brighter stars.
