ABSTRACT

Schmidt plates in three colors from the Curtis and ADH Schmidt telescopes were searched for dark nebulae. Positions, dimensions, and photometric properties are given for 68 identified dark nebulae. They are generally larger than the well-known examples in the Milky Way. Many show alignment with the bar, and there is a strong suggestion of an elongation of the dust clouds parallel to the magnetic field. Key words: dark nebulae - Large Magellanic Cloud
