Experimental measurements are performed in a Cs‐Ba tacitron equipped with Langmuir probes operating in a steady‐state mode. Measured quantities include electron temperature, plasma density and plasma potential, in both the emitter‐grid and grid‐collector regions. The effects of Cs pressure and probe location on the measured parameters (electron temperature, plasma density, and plasma potential) are investigated. Results from two different electrode arrangements are compared. When the grid is closer to the collector, the voltage drop across the grid is higher and the plasma density in the collector gap is lower, increasing the forward voltage drop across the tacitron and making it easier to extinguish.
