Das postoperative Management nach einer Unterschenkelamputation ist mitentscheidend für das Outcome. Statt starrer Gipshüllen oder elastischer Kompressionsbandagen werden heute oft Semi-Rigid Dressings eingesetzt. Die halbstarren Schienen schützen mit ihrer stabilen Außenhülle vor Traumata, während im Inneren der weich gelagerte Stumpf bis zur Prothesenanpassung optimal versorgt werden kann. Das beschleunigt die Wundheilung und reduziert das Stumpfödem.
