Materials and methods
The Alloclassic-SL femoral component (Sulzer Orthopaedics) (Fig. 1) is collarless and made of Protasul-100 titanium alloy (TiA Al Nb, Sulzer Medica, Winterthur, Switzerland), in which vanadium (a metal present in the usual titanium alloy) is replaced with niobium [20].The straight taper is flat in transverse section and wedge shaped mediolaterally. It is designed
Perioperative complications
Intraoperative fracture of the greater trochanter was noted in 4 hips (1 in center A, 3 in center B), with 1 requiring cerclage fixation. Venous thrombosis was diagnosed in 4 hips (3%) with no subsequent pulmonary embolism. Sciatic nerve palsy was noted in 2 hips (1.5%), with 1 complete and 1 partial recovery. Postoperative dislocation occurred in 7 hips (5.2%), 6 in center A (NS group), in which a posterolateral approach was used, and 1 in the 2 other centers (S group), in which an
Discussion
In the present series, patients were selected for femoral fixation on the basis of age (<65 years old) and bone stock quality in 2 centers. In the third center, representing 52% of the studied hips, exclusion was limited to poor femoral bone stock, found at surgery. In the series as a whole, there have been no revisions for loosening, no pending revisions, and no radiographic loosening over the study period of 1 to 10 years. Four stems were reoperated on in the early postoperative period for

Thirty-Year Minimum Follow-Up Outcome of a Straight Cementless Rectangular Stem
2024, Journal of ArthroplastyExperimental analysis of early periprosthetic femoral fractures with uncemented straight hip stems
2022, Clinical BiomechanicsCitation Excerpt :It shows a good primary fixation in the bone stock and a survival rate of approximately 95% 20 years after primary THA (Cruz-Pardos et al., 2017; Kolb et al., 2012). Nevertheless, intra- and post-operative rates of PFF for this stem type have been reported at around the same rate as overall cumulative PFF rates for uncemented stems (Busch et al., 2012; Carli et al., 2017; Delaunay et al., 2001). Two clinically relevant load cases which are clinically relevant for PFF and which are also regularly used for biomechanical testing were identified: stumbling and sideways fall on the hip.
Total hip arthroplasty with rectangular stems and subtrochanteric transverse shortening osteotomy in Crowe type IV hips: a retrospective study
2019, Arthroplasty TodayCitation Excerpt :The initial stability ensures that osseointegration is possible leading to long-term secondary fixation and stability [10]. In addition, Zweymüller stem grit blasted surface enhances osseointegration and rapid secondary stability without the risk of coating delamination [15], and longer term results with Zweymüller stem have shown excellent secondary stability with high rates of radiographic osseointegration [1,6]. In the present study, we aimed to evaluate the surgical technique and clinical outcomes of subtrochanteric transverse shortening osteotomy and onlay split intercalary autograft with the use of cementless rectangular cross-section femoral implants in Crowe IV dysplastic hips.

2014, Orthopaedics and Traumatology: Surgery and ResearchCitation Excerpt :Until now, comparative studies of identical stems with or without HA coating have consistently concluded that HA was not useful [5,6]. The intermediate term results of our studies with the Alloclassic-SL™ (Zimmer, Winterthur, CH) grit-blasted titanium alloy stem have been excellent [7–10], but to our knowledge, there are no studies comparing the effects of adding HA coating to this straight stem with metaphyseal-diaphyseal fixation.
