Answer to: Image 3: Hemosuccus Pancreaticus

The EGD demonstrates the phenomenon of hemosuccus pancreaticus. This is a rare cause of upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB). It should be considered as a cause of UGIB in patients with a history of chronic pancreatitis, complications of pancreatitis such as pseudocyst formation, or pancreatic tumors. Additionally, patients who have undergone instrumentation of the pancreatic duct are at risk for hemosuccus pancreaticus. Patients typically present with abdominal pain, melena, hematemesis, and
