Answer to: Image 4: Multifocal Systemic Tuberculosis
Biopsies taken from the colon revealed severe chronic inflammation and epithelioid granuloma with giant cell compatible with tuberculous infection (Figure D). Acid-fast staining was negative. Bronchoalveolar lavage revealed positive acid-fast staining bacteria. Thus, the patient was diagnosed with multifocal systemic TB, she was treated with a regimen of four antituberculous agents and was referred to a TB isolation center for continuous treatment.
