Answer to: Image 10: Swallowed, Retained, and Missed Maloney Bougie

The chest radiograph demonstrates a tapered radiopaque foreign body projecting over the midline of the chest and abdomen. An upper gastrointestinal endoscopy showed a 38-Fr esophageal dilator (Maloney bougie) in the middle third of the esophagus, with the tapered distal end looped back into the esophagus. The tapered end was first pushed back into the stomach. The nontapered end of the dilator was then captured with a snare and extracted without difficulty. The remainder of the upper endoscopy
