    Citation Excerpt :

A compromised immune response to bacterial infections is associated with increasing the risk of severe infectious diseases in the elderly, who are in general more susceptible to infections due to comorbid conditions, such as diabetes mellitus and renal insufficiency [30,32,41,42]. In this study, we investigated patients aged between their 60′s and 90′s. Age-related immune decline contributes substantially to greater morbidity and mortality from sepsis in older persons with CKD [21,31,42]. Previous studies using ED or ICU data showed plasma presepsin concentrations to be elevated in most patients with low eGFR [23].
