Application of scaled particle theory to the salting out of single hydrophobic ions

Abstract

An electrochemical method for the estimation of single ionic salting-out coefficients is presented. The ionic salting-out coefficients of tetrabutyl ammonium and tetraphenyl borate ions were experimentally determined. The scaled particle theory with a simple electrostatic contribution was used to calculate the hard-sphere diameter of these ions. The results were in reasonable agreement with the values obtained by other methods.
