Isolation and structures of sulfonium salts derived from thioethers: [{o-C6H4(CH2SMe)2}H][NbF6] and [{[9]aneS3}H][NbF6]

Abstract

Two very unusual sulfonium salts, [{o-C6H4(CH2SMe)2}H][NbF6] and [{[9]aneS3}H][NbF6], obtained from reaction of the thioethers with NbF5 in CH2Cl2 solution, are reported and their structures described; the eight-coordinate tetrafluoro Nb(V) cation of the dithioether is obtained from the same reaction.
