Hydrogen-bonded two-dimensional sheet construction in the 1∶1 adduct between 2-cyanoguanidine and 2-(N-cyano)imino-4,6-dimethylpyrimidine

Abstract

Co-crystallisation of 2-cyanoguanidine (cnge) and 2-(N-cyano)imino-4,6-dimethylpyrimidine (cidmp) yields a 1∶1 adduct. Analogous experiments with cnge and either mono- or di-alkyl substituted 2-cyanoguanidines give starting materials only. The adduct has a hydrogen-bonded two-dimensional sheet architecture. The sheets comprise separate chains of cnge and cidmp molecules, both of which lie parallel to the c-axis. Three different N–H⋯N hydrogen-bonding motifs generate the structure. Two form centrosymmetric pairs of cnge molecules and of cidmp molecules, while the third connects the centrosymmetric pairs to construct the sheets.
