Abstract
THE absorption, without change, of certain globulins of the colostrum by the new-born animal has been known for many years1. Smith2 has reported that the epithelial cells of the ileum of calves contain feebly staining homogeneous bodies which are present in late intra-uterine life but largely disappear within three days of birth. Other intracellular bodies, apparently protein in nature, have been described in the intestinal epithelium of suckling mice and compared with the meconium corpuscles of the human fœtus3.
