2021, Marine Pollution BulletinCitation Excerpt :Raghukumar et al. also indicated that Cirrenalia could secrete cellulase and xylanase to decompose leaves of Rhizophora and Cirrenalia could grow fast during the initial stage of leaves decomposition (Raghukumar et al., 1994), which explained why Cirrenalia is the dominant genus in our decayed leave samples. The genus Lignincola was also reported to secrete extracellular endoglucanase, cellobiohydrolase and β-glucosidase and rapidly utilize cellulose as the only carbon source (Hyde et al., 1998; Pointing et al., 1999). Dead vegetation decomposition, which could produce nutrition for other microbes and plants, is vital for promoting the nutrient transfer chain and the long-term sustainability of mangrove systems (Holguin et al., 2001).
