The Department of Transport and Main Roads in Queensland, Australia, is to take delivery of new smart card based driving licenses – understood to be the first to roll out in Australia. The technology is to be supplied by Gemalto and prime contractor Placard. The companies will be providing several million Sealys electronic driving licenses over a five year period with implementation commencing in 2010.
