Indium-111 leukocyte scintigraphy in suspected bowel ischemia
2000, American Journal of GastroenterologyCitation Excerpt :In recent years, magnetic resonance angiography, in its turn, has shown promising results in a so far limited number of studies, in the detection of stenosis or occlusion of the mesenteric circulation, but the presence of atherosclerotic disease does not necessarily prove ischemia (23, 24). Indium-111 leukocyte scintigraphy has been used for many years in the diagnosis of acute infectious and inflammatory disorders in general (7–9), including inflammatory bowel disease (5, 6). In 1977, Bardfeld et al. reported the use of Tc-99m sulfur colloid-labeled leukocytes in a dog model of mesenteric ischemia (25).
