A model for treatment and diagnosis

To better understand the 7 recommendations from 2007 it is necessary to review a differential diagnosis of low back pain that is divided into categories (Fig. 1). As reviewed elsewhere in this issue, the differential for low back pain can be divided into 3 major subsets: (1) back pain that is not related to a neurologic problem, (2) back pain related to a problem with the spinal column, or (3) back pain related to another neurologic issue.1 These categories can help predict, by generalizing the
