Although AP hospitalizations are increasing in most US hospital-based studies, there is a dearth of population-based studies examining the incidence trend of AP [[1], [2], [3]]. Moreover, while AP etiology frequency (vary in different populations and eras, biliary and alcohol being most common), to the best of our knowledge no study reported changes over time in an encompassing US population-based cohort [4,5].
