Electronic relaxation in lead clusters: An indicator of non-metallic behavior
2014, Chemical Physics LettersCitation Excerpt :These fast relaxation times were attributed to efficient Auger-like electron–electron scattering related to a high density of valence d-electrons in these clusters [15,16]. For sp-metal clusters such as Au, Ag, Si, and Al clusters with similar sizes, relaxation times were found to be slower due to lower numbers of valence electrons [2,17–19]. For these clusters, the transfer of excess energy of excited electrons to nuclear motion was found to be responsible for relaxation of optically excited states.

2007, Chemical Physics LettersCitation Excerpt :The latter process dominates in species with a rather flexible geometry [8]. In small clusters with a lower density of states and a rather rigid geometric structure, the situation is different: long-lived excited states [9,10] and direct photofragmentation [10] exist, making these nanoparticles promising candidates for photochemistry. In the present work, first results on Au2O− are presented, which is one of the simplest specimen among the clusters listed above.
