Abstract

Various industries associated with the agriculture sector produces a large proportion of waste in different forms. Husk of different consumable seeds, peels of vegetables, and straw of some common agricultural crops are strong sources of natural dyes. These wastes are also a good source of protein, fibers, vitamins, carbohydrates, as well as different minerals. However, If this waste disposed off as untreated can cause considerable environmental pollution. Therefore, to reduce the environmental pollution, the scientists have developed different technique to separate the use full component like dyes and pigments from the agrowaste. Hence, in this way we can reduce the problem of their disposal and finally environmental pollution. The different techniques followed now a days are found to be very effective in separating dyes and pigments from agrowastes. The dyes and pigments obtained have a lot of scope in different filed. They are used as a natural colorant to dyes the textile materials, food materials, pharmaceutical products, etc., a good alternative to synthetic dyes. In this chapter, we have discussed the different methods of extraction, applications as well as the sources of natural dyes.
