A critical review on the health benefits of fish consumption and its bioactive constituents
2022, Food ChemistryCitation Excerpt :Lee et al. (2015) also evaluated that peptide Gln-Gly-Try-Arg-Pro-Leu-Arg-Gly-Pro-Glu-Phe-Leu (Mw: 1391 Da) and tetrapeptide Pro-Glu-Phe-Leu isolated from skate (Raja kenojei) were exhibited strong β-secretase inhibitory activity. Amyloid beta (Aβ) level plays a critical early role in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD), producing by disassembling of amyloid precursor protein (APP) by the β-secretase enzyme (Vassar, 2016). The results indicated that peptides isolated from fish exhibited therapeutic neuroprotection in treating aging-associated conditions.
