Effects of flavonoids on membrane adaptation of food-associated bacteria
2023, Biochimica et Biophysica Acta - BiomembranesAssessing the performance of membrane photobioreactors (MPBR) for polishing effluents containing different types of nitrogen
2020, Algal ResearchCitation Excerpt :Brevundimonas diminuta was only found in the MPBR-NH4 (Fig. 2a and b). This type of bacteria has been frequently found in the biofilters treating NH4-containing waste gases [28]. No nitrifying bacteria were detected in the MPBR-NH4, notwithstanding that the reactor provided a favourable condition for nitrifiers.
Differential daptomycin resistance development in Staphylococcus aureus strains with active and mutated gra regulatory systems
2018, International Journal of Medical MicrobiologyCitation Excerpt :The extraction of fatty acids by saponification, methylation, and subsequent conversion into the methyl ester form was carried out as previously described (Sasser, 1990). The resulting FAME extracts were analyzed by GC–MS on an Agilent model 7890A gas chromatograph equipped with a 5% phenyl-methyl-silicone capillary column and a model 5975C mass selective detector, applying the chromatographic conditions described in reference (Lipski and Altendorf, 1997). The identity of fatty acids was verified by applying known standards (Derichs et al., 2014; Lipski and Kämpfer, 2012).
Studies on the stability of a carotenoid produced by a novel isolate using low cost agro-industrial residue and its application in different model systems
2015, LWTCitation Excerpt :Harvesting, saponification, methylation and extraction of the fatty acid methyl esters were performed according to Sasser (1990). Fatty acid methyl esters were identified, as described previously (Lipski & Altendorf, 1997), by GC-MS [Thermo GC/C–IRMS system composed of a Trace GC Ultra gas chromatograph (Thermo Electron Corp., Milan, Italy)]. Genomic DNA was prepared according to the protocol of Wilson (1987).
Comparative analysis of bacterial community composition in bulk tank raw milk by culture-dependent and culture-independent methods using the viability dye propidium monoazide
2014, Journal of Dairy ScienceCitation Excerpt :Fatty acid methyl ester preparation followed the methods described by Sasser (1990). Fatty acid methyl ester extracts were analyzed by GC-MS with a gas chromatograph (model 7890A; Agilent Technologies Germany GmbH, Waldbronn, Germany) equipped with a 5% phenyl methyl silicone capillary column and a mass spectrometer (model 5975C; Agilent Technologies Germany GmbH) as described previously (Lipski and Altendorf, 1997). Fatty acid methyl esters were identified by their retention time and by their mass spectra (ChemStation; Agilent Technologies Germany GmbH).
The nitrite-oxidizing community in activated sludge from a municipal wastewater treatment plant determined by fatty acid methyl ester-stable isotope probing
2013, Systematic and Applied MicrobiologyCitation Excerpt :The ECL values were calculated from a linear interpolation of the unknown peaks’ retention times between two saturated straight-chain FAMEs of a standard (MIDI System Calibration Standard, Part-No. 19298-60500; Agilent, Waldbronn, Germany). The procedure was previously described by Lipski and Altendorf [20] and Lipski et al. [21]. For community analysis, three samples from June 2008, May 2009 and August 2009 were incubated with final concentrations of 20 mM NaH13CO3, and 0.3, 3 and 30 mM NaNO2, and without nitrite supplementation for 3–7 weeks in gas tight flasks (500 mL flasks with 100 mL activated sludge samples) at incubation temperatures of 17 °C and 28 °C.
