Liver transplantation in patients with alcohol-related liver disease: current status and future directions
2020, The Lancet Gastroenterology and HepatologyCitation Excerpt :The survival of patients with alcohol-related liver disease who receive a liver transplant has steadily improved to reach 80–85% at 1 year post-transplantation.1 However, liver transplantation should not be offered to patients with alcohol-related liver disease who have moderately impaired liver function, since modelling studies have not shown a survival benefit of transplantation versus no transplantation in patients with intermediate disease severity.2–4 Similar to other indications for liver transplantation, the MELD prognostic score is used to prioritise organ allocation for candidates with alcohol-related liver disease.5
