In situ stable growth of Bi<inf>2</inf>WO<inf>6</inf> on natural hematite for efficient antibiotic wastewater purification by photocatalytic activation of peroxymonosulfate
2022, Chemical Engineering JournalCitation Excerpt :For example, Wang et.al synthesized a step-scheme α-Fe2O3/Bi2WO6 photocatalyst to enhance photo-Fenton catalytic activity for degradation of methyl blue (MB) under addition of H2O2 [11]. Fenton oxidation suffers from drawbacks including strong pH dependence, sludge production, potential secondary pollution and requirement of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) with safety risks, which limit its application in practice [8–14]. Whereas PMS-based Fenton-like oxidation with the generation of highly active sulfate radical (SO4−) is gaining more and more focus, due to the applicability at a wide range of pH and the use of stable reagents.
Distribution of antibiotic resistance genes from human and animal origins to their receiving environments: A regional scale survey of urban settings
2022, Environmental PollutionCitation Excerpt :Globally, antimicrobial resistance has reached unprecedented levels, causing thousands and millions of human deaths each year (Matthiessen et al., 2016).
Resistance of multidrug resistant Escherichia coli to environmental nanoscale TiO<inf>2</inf> and ZnO
2021, Science of the Total EnvironmentCitation Excerpt :ARB may have entered the environment through hospital waste, farm waste, and municipal waste and are widely distributed in natural environments, causing concern about the potential risks they impose on human health (Yuan et al. 2020a). The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared antimicrobial resistance as one of the major global threats to human health in the 21st century (Matthiessen et al. 2016). It has been largely reported that ARB, carrying a number of ARGs for efflux system or target protection, could also resist heavy metals in the environments (Li et al. 2015; Nies 2003).
