Abstract

Commercial polyoxyethylene glycol mono(4-alkylphenyl) ethers havig different degrees of ethoxylation were degraded in the presence of acetyl chloride and anhydrous iron(III) chloride. Compounds formed from polyoxyethylene chais can be easily and precisely determined and their contents can be used to calculate the average degree of ethoxylation.
