The giant cell tumor during pregnancy: A review of literature
2023, Orthopaedics and Traumatology: Surgery and ResearchCitation Excerpt :The presence of oncofetal antigens in pregnancy, such as carcinoembryonic antigen, alpha- fetoprotein, placental antigen, F9 teratoma antigen, and carcinoplacental alkaline phosphatase, could allow tumor growth by eliciting cancer immune escape processes [21]. These antigens have been found on some tumor cells, but no study has demonstrated oncofetal antigen expression in GCTs [21,35,37]. GCTs are also characterized by a sophisticated network of osteoclastogenic growth factors, which serves as an autocrine feedback stimulus for osteoclast recruitment and which is responsible for the development of specific pathological features in these tumors, such as the aggressive osteolytic behavior, increased vascularity, and therefore tumor progression.

2001, Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology, and EndodonticsCitation Excerpt :These have been referred to as aggressive giant cell granuloma and may require excision.3,4 Rapid enlargement of central GCGs during pregnancy is a recognized phenomenon.5-8,19,20 It appears that the rapid growth results from stimulation of pre-existing lesions rather than initiation of a new lesion; this appears to also have been the sequence of events in the present case.
